African Americans WWII

Something I know about black history was that African Americans fought in WWII. A quote from the article was, “During World War II, many African Americans were ready to fight for what President Franklin D. Roosevelt called the “Four Freedoms”— freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear”. A group that fought in WWII was the Tuskegee Airmen. My grandfather was a Tuskegee Airman. A question I have is what was the reason why there was WWII?
